Client: Caleb Lloyd | Project: Logo for research project
So this was a fun little side project for my brother. He had been working on his PhD in Forensic Psychology at Carlton University in Ottawa, Canada. He was conducting a research project and wanted to give his letters and communications a more professional feel with a logo. His project involved studying the helpfulness and relationships between volunteers and ex-prisoners. The project goal was to help improve the way the Canadian criminal justice system provides services to individuals in prison or leaving prison.
I started off with a very equal opportunity logo that included a man and a woman. I wanted to make it unclear who was the volunteer and who was the ex-prisoner. I used one continuous line connecting the two people to illustrate the relationship they have to each other: the volunteer being made up of the same human stuff as the ex-prisoner and yet also being their link to society again.
My brother loved it but informed me (while laughing – the stinker!) that pretty much 100% of both the volunteers AND the ex-prisoners were men. So I sketched another guy:
